Today, I’m the last stop on the 1 Pattern 3 Ways Tour! Hope you’ve enjoyed all the exciting design concepts so far. Now, sit back and enjoy!
Don’t you love a versatile pattern! I’m always at odds with myself trying to find a pattern to use more than once. Sometimes I may sew the same shirt pattern for a week’s worth of clothing just because! Being creative in a crunch can be hard. So when Bethany from Sew Not Perfect challenged us to sew one pattern three ways, I jumped at the chance to work outside my box.
One Pattern Three Ways seems simple, but what to sew, what to sew…. I chose Coraline from Swoon Patterns. The first way was easy.
Simply sew the pattern has written.
This is a great foundation to understand how the pattern comes together. You can make your mistakes on this first sew. Coraline is great as a beginner pattern. She is simple to construct while allowing you to become familiar with Swoon Pattern’s instructions. Once you’re good with the basics not it’s time to jazz it up. When you do jazz it up, start off small if alterations aren’t your normal cup of tea.
For the second Coraline, I didn’t cut the front piece on the fold as instructed. Instead, I added 1/2 inch to the end (where the fold was notated) and then cut. Next, place both front pieces right sides together and sew with 1/2 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open. Topstitch 1/4 inch on each side. Then assemble the remaining pieces as instructed.
For the piece de resistance, I chose special occasion fabric. I’ve never used this style fabric before this challenge. The hardest part was getting the ShapeFlex to fuse to the fabric. I didn’t want to use too much heat and smash the flowers or melt them. It did take a few tries to get the fusing correct. However, I think the formal Coraline is my best feat yet.
I’d love to see what you make when you take the challenge to Sew 1 Pattern 3 Ways. Don’t forget to enter the Giveaway.
