{REVIEW} Patterns for Pirates Women’s Raglan Add-On

Who’s ready for the latest release from Patterns for Pirates? Judy has created an add-on package for the popular Women’s Raglan Shirt and Tunic. Let’s talk about the raglan shirt/tunic first. There are three sleeve length choices: short, 3/4, and long. There are several hem options: curved, straight, tight banned, loose banned, or tunic. Perfect combination to transition from summer to winter and vice versa.

The Women’s Raglan Shirt and Tunic is a super quick sew! In less than one hour you will have the perfect shirt for mama errands or casual date night. Jazz up the Raglan Shirt with triangle or elbow patches. The Raglan is also a wonderful choice to upcycle an old mens t-shirt for the front. Choose your significant other’s favorite football shirt and make it yours!

Here are the fabric requirements and size chart for the Womens Raglan Shirt and Tunic.

What makes the add-on worth it? The OPTIONS! Yes, there are that many options. Choose a kangaroo pocket or a more jazzed up runched funnel collar. Or maybe you’ll size up and make workout gear with thumb holes and a hood. The add-on has it all!

For the look above, I used sweatshirt fleece and sized up (normally wear size XXL). From the add-on pattern, I selected the hood with drawstring. Yes, I realize I’m wearing the Florida Gators…. Unfortunately, that was all my local Hancock Fabrics had in stock. However, this fabric was a BIG score at $2.38 per yard! My hubby loves it since he’s a Gator fan. Well, moving on…..

The hood has two options: lined or unlined. This hood is lined with sweatshirt fleece. The fleece and my hair cause the hood to “stand up” more than other photos. I chose short sleeves because I get overly hot in sweatshirt fleece.

The hood has great coverage! You cannot see in the picture; however, the drawstring is about where my left thumb is holding the hood. It will help pull the hood tighter for cooler days.

Now to show my “true” colors, I accessorized the Gator hoodie with Clemson Tiger earrings and an UGA Bulldog bracelet! GO TIGERS! GO DAWGS! The pants are Patterns for Pirates Straight Palazzos Pants. The pants are super comfortable and are perfect to pair.

For this look, I sized up again and used anti-pill fleece. The funnel collar works well with the stiffer fleece. It can be used as an actual funnel collar or folded down for a mock turtleneck/cowl effect. The fleece maintains its shape perfectly.

The add-on comes together quickly. Overall, you’ll probably spend about an hour and a half constructing the Raglan Shirt and Add-On. This is a great serger project! Both patterns are great for beginners.

Don’t you love the add-on!! The add-on is scheduled to be released TODAY, Thursday, January 29, 2015.
